Travel 2014: Moalboal, Cebu Travel Guide

Moalboal is a small town in the southwest part of Cebu. Its rich underwater life is a paradise for divers, snorkelers and tourists.

My friends and I went to Cebu last September to experience swimming with the butandings at Oslob. Having extra days to spare and explore Cebu, we decided to include a day in Moalboal in our itinerary.

Of all the snorkeling areas I've been, I could say that the colorful corals and marine life in Moalboal is one of the best!  Too bad we were not able to bring an underwater camera with us, for the beauty of Moalboal lies in its underwater treasures.

How to Get to Moalboal from Cebu City

Take a bus going to Barili from the Cebu City South Bus Terminal. The one-way fare is around PHP120 and the travel time is around 3 to 4 hours. Tell the conductor to alight you at Moalboal town. The unloading point is near the tricycle terminal. You can hire a tricycle to take you straight to the White Beach or to your booked hotel/resort.

Moalboal Accommodation

There are many accomodations to choose from if you want an overnight stay at Moalboal. Our group stayed at Moalboal Beach Resort. It is a bit far from the white beach but it is a good and affordable place if you want a laid back and peaceful stay. The rooms are clean and the staffs are very accommodating.

Snorkeling at Moalboal

Like what I have said, the main attractions of Moalboal is in its underwater world. Since we are not into diving, our group hired a boat owned by Kuya Dodong Jacquez to guide us around the snorkeling spots in the area.

He first took us for some dolphin watching but we saw only a few of them. Kuya Dodong said that if we wanted to see more dolphins we should have went there early in the morning.

Next we went to Pescador Island which is a famous snorkeling/diving site. He parked the boat near the island and he guided us for some snorkeling around. The beautiful corals and colorful marine species that we saw there were really amazing!

We also went to the Pawikan Area and the Fish Sanctuary. It was a wondeful experience to see and swim with the big Pawikans. And swimming with thousands of schools of sardines was really one of a kind!

Gaaaah. I know these pictures did not really showed off the astounding wonders of Moalboal but I hope this post will encourage you to visit and experience it yourself! :)

  2. Great post. I agree with Ivana. You guys seemed to have a lot of fun. Indeed, there are really a lot of activities that you can do in this island. I'd like to add though that there is another option to visit this wonderful place from the City of Cebu. Aside from bus or taxi, you can rent a motorbike or scooter at . A lot of tourists have been trying this option as it is more convenient and adventure.
